Montreal

Bonjour from Montreal! Where I will staying up until December; (probably) where upon I will return to British Columbia and Panorama Mountain Resort, I will be residing at the Auberge St Paul in Vieux Montreal. A cute little hostel in the cobbled streets of old Montreal, only 5 minutes from the harbour side, subway station and many touristy shops. It has a really nice feel to the place and I get to stay here for free! Providing I clean and prepare rooms 5hrs a day.. 5 days a week.. pretty fair deal I think!

I arrived on Sunday and got accommodated at the hostel and did a little life management and then got to sleep early ready for my first day on the job. Monday 7am. Ugh! After a solid week and a half that was a shock to my system, nothing 3 cups of coffee can't fix. Seeing as autumn is rolling in fast, all the summer hostel-goers were signing out.. meaning we had 27 sets of bedding to wash and replace! Not to mention general cleaning on top of that. I was shattered pretty sharpish. But with the promise of easier days to come? Ça m'est égal.

Being surrounded by French is so exciting. I try translating everything I hear and see in my head and listen intently to passing conversation to see how much I can comprehend. I work with a lot of frenchies so I must be sure to convince them to speak French at me in the name of self development.

Even though I had a very busy morning I still had some camp friends staying in Montreal - I couldn't not see them! So we organised a hike up Mont Royale to get some pretty fantastic views of the city and then be shown round my friends new university- McGill. It was great fun and it was so nice to catch up and chat nonsense around such great people.

Yesterday I took the plunge and applied to some local French clubs promising easy conversation and a little academic French improvement in an imformal setting over coffee. Sweet deal! I'm going to one today at 5pm after I do some food shoppping (desperately in need of that!) and after work of course. But I do have another shift at 9pm so I'm sure I can fit it all in.

Love to all my family xx until next time!

  1. Bonjour mon fils! Sounds like a nice set up - the guys at the beech hut have taken pity on and teach me French most days so I like the sound of the coffee club! Pasteque is my new word'! Love from us all xx
