The Reception Is Never Boring

Theres always something that happens that really makes your day when working the evening reception shift. In the last couple of days I've had some good ones. Its such a great position because you get to welcome guests to the hostel and get a gage of how friendly/outgoing or fun they are! Also whoever you check in also naturally looks to you for help which is nice. One of my favorites just left today. Perfect fit for the hostel - always chatting away to all staff and guests to the point where people thought she worked here! Shes actually in the Norwich military college in the US which was facinating to hear about. But also meant that it was her first time getting drunk here because now shes of legal age! Fun! We looked after her and she loved dancing at the club. Just facilitating an awesome long weekend and her saying that it'll stay with her was really cool. Naturally I helped out whilst on shift by playing good tracks to get everyone in the mood for the night out. But...

So after being told by the manager of the store I wasn't working today.. but actually Wednesday and Friday. The head barista Micky has come over to me and asked if I can work because she messed up! Zak saves the day by going on word of mouth and sticking to what he belived to be true! Good instincts Zak. You done okay. They're lucky I stuck around to study and blog! Good old fate coming through with victory. I start at midday! **UPDATE VIA METRO COMMUTE** What a day! Remembering how to make coffees and figuring out a new system and new menu of drinks was a whole lot of information! Micky my mentor was super relaxed and clear. Obviously very familiar with it all and a nice guy too. Toward the end of my shift I was paired with an excitable korean girl called Jimi who was lovely also. Now the best thing about the day however was I served someone i recognised today.. The father of one of my kids from camp this summer! How crazy! I recognised his accent and demenor and we...

Whilst I commute to the first shift of my new coffee job and SecondCupCoffee Monkland! So excited 1. For coffee 2. For money! Haha The last week has been really fun at the hostel. Im really settling into my new role at the reception - its like whoever you check in has a special relationship with you and will come to you for guidence and questions! For example every night for the last 3 days I have had tourist question or directions to yet another cathedral. With a tour - in english. But she was lovely and had the best name ever! Rainbow! She even left a thank you card addressed to me and Antoine (the other evening receptionist) which was so sweet of her. So many more lil stories for you too: Powercut was fun. 10 mins of no power anywhere in the building and no answers for any of the questions they were asking. It randomly came back though - in time for the next check in luckily enough. How about the time where a guy thought his body could survive a 6 hours driving from ...

Qu'est que ce passé?

There was a tornado warning! The winds were so strong the stroller was blown into the pond! Like a hero I immediatley jumped in to lend a hand. Ankle deep in flip flops? No problem! I run. As often as I have motivation! Normally along the canal - or I skate it and practise jumping around. Its good fun! Also its right by my favorite super market Adonis which always has loads of veggies on sale for $.99 woohoo! Today i went and got a couple big bags of groceries, its so fun to skateboard with extra weight - today they even acted as sails and pushed me along in the wind! I cook. With said groceries. I love it! University of Waterloo came and went. 88 students who were suprisingly well behaved and friendly. Chiliean Ti kwando team too.. Who left more of a mess than the uni students! They were training in the middle of the corridoor! Nipping to the loo? - watch out for the small Chilean girl with pink shoes who might take your head off. I am ...
